WaterScout is Spectrum’s family of sensors for measuring soil moisture at remote locations.  Use the SM 100 to track water content alone.  Or, install SMEC 300 sensors to track soil moisture, salinity, and temperature; all with just one sensor.  WaterScout sensors provide you with critical information to better manage irrigation and fertilizer applications.  Connect to a WatchDog data logger or weather station to track changes in soil conditions over time.

WaterScout SM 100 Soil Moisture Sensors

The key is knowing both when and how much to water!

Maintaining a healthy soil moisture and water balance is essential for producing high quality plants. Under-watered plants suffer from nutrient deficiencies, stunting and wilting. Conversely, over-watered plants are more susceptible to disease pressure and less tolerant of dry conditions later on in their life cycle. Extreme over-watering will suffocate the plant and lead to root death.

  • Measures Volumetric Water Content (VWC) of soil
  • Capacitance-type sensor responds immediately to changes in soil moisture content for better irrigation decisions
  • Calibrated for mineral soils or soil-less media
  • Installs easily into 3/4 in (1.9 cm) hole
  • Install permanently or use to take spot measurements
  • Can be read with the FieldScout® Soil Sensor Reader (Item 6466) or WatchDog® 2000 and 1000 Series Stations
  • Connect up to 8 sensors to one station Not compatible with 400/200 loggers. WatchDog Stations sold prior to 2009 must be upgraded. (call for support)
  • NEW Calibration feature: Sensors with “3/14” code can be re-calibrated using the FieldScout Soil Sensor Reader (item 6466) or the WaterScout Calibration Device (item 6470CAL3V). Please see the product manual for calibration procedure.

SMEC 300 Soil Moisture/EC/Temperature Sensor

Identify situations where soil salinity is an issue or where certain moisture and temperature conditions facilitate soil-borne diseases.

  • Capacitance-type soil moisture sensor
  • Carbon ink electrodes provide large measuring surface for electrical conductivity (EC)
  • Easy, 1-step EC calibration process
  • Can be read with the FieldScout® Soil Sensor Reader (Item 6466) or WatchDog 2000, 1000 Series Stations, and WatchDog Pups
  • Connect up to 4 sensors per station Recommended placement of sensors is 10 feet separation to prevent EC interference when in the same medium
  • WaterScout Calibration Device required unless using Soil Sensor Reader (Item 6466)

WatchDog Stations sold prior to 2012 must be upgraded (Contact for support)
